This is request from SaskWhitewater to PLEASE be safe if you plan on paddling on the South Saskatchewan River in Saskatoon in the next couple of weeks. As the weather warms up, the ice is starting to break up and it is becoming very unsafe to be on the water. Ice flows are EXTREMELY dangerous and mixed with freezing water is a deadly combination. There have been photos in the paper of marathon boaters paddling on the river in the past two weeks and there is nothing stopping you from paddling as well but PLEASE use extreme caution.
If you have an itch to paddle consider joining us at Harry Bailey with the Kelsey Kayak Club for one of the free Drop-in nights April 8 and 15 from 9-11pm.
